Catalogue for the exhibition Midway Between Mystery and Symbol: Yayoi Kusama's Monochrome. Works of monochrome, popular since the ancient times as ink wash and monochromatic paintings, has developed through various art movements, particularly alongside the progress of Abstract Expressionism in the twentieth century. From her representative Infinity Nets paintings and soft sculptures, to installations, and her recent painting series, My Eternal Soul , Kusama has continuously produced a variety of monochrome works. Introduces her unique world of monochrome in Kusama's artistic philosophy of 'self-obliteration', which she has consistently pursued throughout her career.
